@deep.conspiracy0: This clothing survived one of Sweden’s darkest royal crimes. In 1567, King Erik XIV had several nobles imprisoned at Uppsala Castle after accusing them of conspiracy. During a period of extreme paranoia, the king attacked Nils Sture, and guards subsequently killed several other prisoners, including members of the Sture family. The event became known as the Sture Murders. Svante Sture’s widow, Märta, preserved the garments worn by her husband and sons. More than 450 years later, damage and staining connected with the event can still be seen on the surviving clothing. #SwedishHistory #fyp #museum
