its so weird. what do they expect us to call ourselves if we aren't allowed to call ourselves american? do they want us to call ourselves "the united states-ians?" the "US-ers"? its pretty much accepted everywhere that people from the USA call themselves "americans" and we claimed that phrase. if someone was from south america they call themselves south americans. or they call themselves by whatever country in south america theyre from. Ie. Brazilian , Chilean, Bolivian, Argentinian.

And also there is no continent called “America” there’s South America and North America and when talking about both of them you say the Americas. The word “America” almost always refers to the USA so I don’t get why Europeans get so weird about it

Actually, if someone from my country told me they went to America in my language, I’d ask south or north, because America is a continent, and we both refer to it as such. If someone from the US told me he was from America, yeah I’d just assume he’s speaking about the US, bc usually they’re the only one that say that, people from other countries usually just specify the country.
