We got a book accurate Precious from the book Push and look how the internet treats her when her abuse is right there on screen. She gets no climatic revenge and still ppl couldn’t garner sympathy for her.

Carrie is a school shooter narrative before school shootings were a thing

also any time Carrie is not a fat girl (which is supposed to be the reason why they drop pigs blood on her) it fails to convey the full story

It’s because they don’t view fat women as people, and if they were to cast a fat woman as Carrie then we would also have to acknowledge how we treat and have been treating fat women throughout history.

To me, it's interesting that both the Carrie & IT novels end with the town itself essentially dying - that the true death of a community happens when it is forced to reckon with the fact it failed to protect its most vulnerable members.

Granted someone COULD at any moment try to make a book accurate Carrie, it’s just a matter of both Hollywood allowing it and being given a budget unless it’s an indie film…

A lot of things can be said about Stephen King, but his books bring a level of complexity and layers that filmmakers are rarely able to bring to the screen

Precious is a laughing stock when she was abused for the entire movie and gets no happy ending.

this is so true. it's much more marketable to make Carrie a perfect victim who garners sympathy from the audience in the way she responds to her abuse, rather than a complex victim that the audience will have their own judgements towards.

Carrie being a fat girl is another reason why they specifically pour pig’s blood on her at the prom.

Also I hate that every time we talk about a book accurate Carrie there are always people in the comments being like "Guys she wasn't that fat in the book she was described as chubby" like it's an excuse for a thin woman playing her 😒

If we cast an emotionally and physically accurate Carrie it would force the public to realize that their behaviors shape people. And in a world that loves a LOLCOW but doesn’t love being told they behave like that because your behavior created their mental environment that just wouldn’t be tolerated

YES! I knew a Carrie irl. She was extremely ostracized but also hostile and even violent towards everyone around her. The story of Carrie is so extremely important.

we would also never get book accurate carrie because people struggle to sympathize with anyone who doesn't have pretty privilege, if they make her the hyper vigilant, chubby, average looking girl she is in the books audiences would find reasons to say "she deserved it" which defeats the entire purpose of the story

No film maker is brave enough to turn it around and point the finger at the audience. They don’t want to make the audience feel guilty or like they too deserve to be killed by Carrie because then they won’t like the film.

we also wont get an accurate portrayal because carrie is not "fat" the entire book. by the time of the prom, she is skinny, and considered conventionally attractive by the crowd. even tommy starts to change his tune. that wouldnt translate well in this day and age, as it would assert that being skinny is the only way people can find you attractive. it is not the "perfect big girl revenge story" like you all think. she becomes skinny 😭

I realized that I was a Carrie once. Overweight little autistic girl with so much venom inside that I always felt like a rabid dog due to always being at the defensive or in the corner crying because of the lack of connection, that's why I kinda hated seeing the Carrie movies because she didn't show that same anger not until the end. Now that I'm an adult who despite being lore confident, losing weight, now having this hegemonic beauty, being pretty outspoken and happy overall, I still get snappy and violent at times when I feel someone wants to condescend me or make fun of me, because I may got a home, a bath, food and a warm blanket but a street dog never forgets the hardships and the cruelty of the world
