The Quran describes hell fire whose fuel is people and stones. So why does Quran says the stone as fuel and how does science describe such fire. At first Quran style of speaking here refers to fuel as the material burnt inside the fire not strictly production of heat by stones. For example if a human is thrown into burning fire, the human will not generate new heat scientifically but a little because it's not wood rather human will be consumed and burnt in the fire turning into ash. So if normal stones are burnt what will happen to them? They will not burn like wood scientifically but they will melt, and they will help to sustain the fire by becoming material of fire and by giving shape to the heat. Tafsir Qurtubi agrees with this interpretation :This has been said to mention the greatness of the fire that it will be so severe that alongwith people it will also burn stones. The closest manifestation to this fire that even burns the stones is the magma filling the entire earth beneath the crust, and it's called lava when it comes out of volcanoes. Magma is made of molten stones, which is heated by the planet's own heat, and it feeds on other stones which sustain it. Magma gives shape to the planet's heat, because heat is something that can't be seen. The shape of lava that we see is thicker, stickier, and more viscous. If the high heat is applied, it becomes less thick and less viscous, like water but looks like watery lava. If in the hellfire, stones and humans are from the material that are burnt, then it will closely match the magma but with very little viscosity due to unimaginable heat (mentioned in prophetic hadiths).
