Jurors in Kouri Richins' murder trial in Utah heard about the children's book she wrote during opening statements, and they heard about it again briefly during her ex-boyfriend Robert Josh Grossman's testimony. Today they heard details about the book and Kouri's local media tour. Detective Jeff O'Driscoll of the Summit County Sheriff's Office testified about it early in his direct-exam with Prosecutor Brad Bloodworth. "Another one of the investigators from the sheriff's office shared a link with me to a story by Good Things Utah, a local news channel, and I viewed an interview there between Ms. Richins and reporters," O'Driscoll testified today (Wednesday, March 11, day 12). Detectives subpoenaed the station, which is an ABC affilidate, "and as part of their production, they produced some emails between Ms. Richins and the production team." Jurors saw those emails during O'Driscoll's testimony. O'Driscoll said Good Things Utah "had some kind of standardized form that anyone could fill out to requesting to be on the show, and it looked like Ms. Richins had filled that out, and they were communicating about the results." Jurors also heard about Richins' appearance on KPCW radio. "Again, I was sent a link to their website. I viewed their webpage and saw an interview with Ms Richins and journalists and listened to an interview that she conducted with them on their website," O'Driscoll said. Background: Kouri Richins, 35, is accused of fatally poisoning her husband, Eric Richins, with fentanyl at their home in Kamas, Utah, in March 2022. After he died, she self-published a children's book she authored titled "Are You With Me?" about coping with grief. Eric Richins, 39, was found dead in their home on March 4, 2022. Prosecutors allege Kouri dropped a lethal dose of fentanyl in a Moscow Mule cocktail she prepared for him. They say she was motivated by money because she owed nearly $5 million to lenders and had changed her husband's life insurance policies prior to his death while also taking out a home equity line of credit without his knowledge. She also was in a romantic relationship with another man. Her defense is that her husband died of a self-inflicted overdose and his family pressured police to implicate her. #law #crime #childrensbook #police
