All the commenters thinking this is a case of hunters getting what they deserved and feeling bad for the bears likely don’t even know what Inuit are and that it is not illegal to kill them in self defence nor is it illegal to harvest them

The Inuit respect the bears, he probably fired the warning shot because he didn’t want to kill it and then froze in fear when it attacked. He probably genuinely thought the warning shot would work…

I suspect he shot up in the air because he was hoping to scare mama bear away and really didn't want to have to shoot her if possible.

In inuit culture we dont over hunt and the reason why the first shot was a warning shot, he didnt want to kill a bear for no reason. He killed the cub because it wouldn’t have survived alone, he killed the third bear because he was traumatized. He just witnessed his friend get killed by these animals and hes alone so he obviously killed ones that would pose a threat to him

It truly astounds me how much humanity has lost their compassion and empathy. Someone lost their life and got people commenting ‘I’m on mama bears side’. They were approached by a POLAR BEAR! The most aggressive bear, like seriously? These people were out to get FOOD. Yes it’s sad that bears were killed, but I’m sure ANYONE in this comment section would do whatever it took to fight for your life!!

Ofc he had to protect them, but I still feel sorry for the polar bears because that's their territory NOT the humans place to stay in. They went there for entertainment, polar bears are there to survive.
