I highly agree with never treating the opposite sex as a walking temptation, you should never view another human being entirely sexually. But that’s the precise reason why I believe in people not having sex unless they love each other first is a good thing, it teaches to only have eyes for those you’re in love with and not random bozos. I’m also a big advocate for abolishing conventional attractiveness. I wouldn’t even consider this puritan but some people have accused me of that before so idk.

Kissing used to be just a greeting. Men would hold each other while they walked. Women would hold hands and lay on each other's lap. Friendships were so intense they were compared to marital covenants. And people were still loyal to their spouses. Purity culture has ruined so much. Even for Christians who push it so hard now. Once, the purity demanded of honor-shame cultures was looked at as a twisted inversion on the identity of love and God we were given. I mourn for what was lost of humanity when we let the fear of being "impure" rule.

Something I've noticed is that homophobia is probably the reason why many men think even the smallest levels of affection from a women is flirting, because they're called gay whenever showing affection to their guy friends, teaching them that you only ever show affection towards someone you're attracted to/want to date and misinterpreting the smallest of basic gestures as flirting. I say this because homophobia is often also linked to purists, being seen as dirty and inherently sexual, and contributing to the collective toxic behaviors around all relationship types
