Next time cut the broccoli stalks off close to the ground and leave the roots to rot, that way they will feed the soil themselves and you won’t disturb the soil ecosystem, all the bugs and microbes that are making homes. Just top dress with an inch or two of compost

Use blood meal for broccoli. They are heavy, heavy nitrogen feeders and bone meal encourages them to bolt and flower
