En el momento de los hechos, el menor se encontraba solo en el apartamento turístico ubicado en un piso 21 de un total de 30 alturas, en la Avenida de Bilbao, en que se hospedaba junto a su padre. El menor ha sido encontrado por los agentes sentado encima del aparato de aire acondicionado situado en la parte exterior del balcón, como se puede ver en el vídeo que ilustra información. Uno de los agentes ha agarrado fuertemente al chico por un brazo para evitar que se resbalase y cayese al vacío. A este agente le sujetaba a su vez otro policía local, a fin de que, en caso de resbalón del menor, no cayeran ambos al vacío.
