I can totally agree with this. I had two friends who had chores to do when they were young, and had to do them, before they could go out to play. Me on the other hand, had no chores at all. As a kid I thought I was lucky. As it turned out not so. My friends had developed all the home skills before reaching adulthood, and had built confidence and self esteem from doing so. Even cooking family meals. When I reached adulthood and left home, I had to learn EVERYTHING. My friends would whiz through home chores and do study, work or play. It was nothing for them. Meanwhile I had to read recepies to learn how to cook, how to use a washing machine and how to iron. Also their parents prepared them for adulthood, as well as shared their adult knowlege on how to function and succed as an adult. Both friends became VERY sucessful, and with happy marriages, while I was still learning stuff they had learnt when they were young. They also had very good self esteem. While I have spent a lifetime feeling inadequate and 5 to 10 steps (even more) behind them, I could never properly catch up.

That seems like a case specific to US, where finding a chore for kids is a chore. Otherwise most developing and underdeveloped world has survival chores built into the lifestyle the moment they are born :)

Huge question about the study though. What was the indicator of success from the people in the study? Was it income over time or was it how they felt about themselves. Cause being successful can be very open for interpretation. Like someone can be a successful doctor vs someone being a successful school teacher. Huge income gap but both are successful. Same goes from like a bluecollar worker making 100k. Is that considered successful in this study? What was the measure of success?

Maybe the study is somewhat flawed when it comes to rich folks. However, for ordinary people , I do believe chores help kids to dmore responsible
