as much as I'd like to do scratch biscuits, I can't make them as well as I can with Bisquick and buttermilk (gotta add veggie oil too)

Don't have butter milk? just add a teaspoon of vinegar or lemon juice to regular milk, I don't ever buy butter milk because other than biscuits I don't use it for anything else so I end up throwing it away, you can test it and I sure you won't notice and difference, if it's not tangy enough add two tablespoons of vinegar or lemon juice.

Easy Buttermilk Biscuits Ingredients 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour 2 TB baking powder 2 TB granulated sugar 1 tsp salt 1 stick (4 oz) cold butter 1 1/4 cups whole buttermilk Egg Wash 1 large egg 1 TB heavy cream Whisk together until smooth. Instructions Whisk together the flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt in a large bowl. Cut the cold butter into the dry ingredients using a box grater. Mix with hands ensuring butter pieces are fully coated with flour mix. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Mix just until the dough comes together. Do not overmix. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface roll. Then perform a book fold: fold the left side into the center, then the right side over. Rotate the dough and repeat until you've completed a total of 4 folds, rolling it out a little bit each time Using a 3-inch round biscuit cutter, press straight down without twisting to cut out 6 biscuits. Brush with egg wash Place the biscuits on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for 20 minutes. Bake at 375°F for about 15 minutes, or until the biscuits are tall and golden brown. Bake any leftover dough scraps as they are rather than re-rolling them. Reworking the scraps compresses the layers, so they won't bake up as light and flaky as the first-cut biscuits.

2 questions...do you need sugar? and why not just melt the butter and mix it in evenly with the buttermilk?

I'm a must say as a cook myself...That was one of the best explanations that I have seen on this app. Clear, concise, all done in one video, and you put the ingredients there while you did it! Well done!💙

Drives me crazy because mine never rise. I keep buying new cans of baking powder, and I never crimp the sides when cutting them out. I always wonder what I’ve done wrong.
