100% true. Yes there were uniforms, but there were definitely social cues from your accessories like shoes, socks, jewlery, even the fit of your uniform (tailoring)

I love your content because as much as I want my child to be an individual, I don’t want them to be an outcast. I find it refreshing to see a creator who focuses on helping a child fit in because it is vital for children to feel a sense of belonging and community! God bless you.

When my mom made me buy my uniform from an army surplus store (khakis & polo type shirts) and all the cute popular girls got theirs from hollister 🤦🏻♀️THE WORST

I was sent to a uniform school in a dress that was way too long and baggy (to “grow into”) and some other girls laughed at me. When I went home and told my grandmother I was laughed at she stayed up late sewing my hems and adjusting the dresses. I always remembered that effort.

I say this in a respectful and constructive way, do you feel that maybe putting an emphasis on physical appearance can lead to not teaching our kids how to not care about how they look and how other people look ? When my son was in kindergarten I made him wear any jumper as he had lost his the day before. As we walked into the classroom literally every child of every age stared, and a few said “what’s that jumper?!”. I could not fathom that they would notice or even care.

Shoes with the uniform will make or break you. I went from non uniform to uniform in 5th grade and i still remember feeling like i wasnt wearing the right shoes and my mom was buying me ugly socks

Amen to all of this! And out-of-uniform days are a big deal too since there are so few of them. My mom would take me shopping to choose outfits for those days & it was always special 💕

HEMMING !! 😭 Oh my goodness. I remember ‘arguing’ with my mom to let me hem my skirt the length I wanted vs what was “allowed by the school”. I knew I needed it shorter and didn’t want to roll it because it was bunched up!! (She didn’t let me hem it enough and I “had to” roll it once over)

only in my early 20’s with no kids lol but your videos are genuinely spot on! everything you mention, i thought about as a kid and teenager! you’re very obviously in tune with your kids and their worlds in a way i see very few parents are able to nail the way you do and the fact that you share it with other moms to see truly shows how great of a mom you are!

in middle school our uniform was polo shirts, and i came on the first day in my polo shirt but all the girls were wearing cute graphic tees and sweaters over them. i felt so awkward and weird in just my polo i remember crying in the bathroom and the next day i asked my mom for a blouse to wear over it. you are such a great mom ♥️♥️♥️

don't let your kid walk around with a skirt short enough to see their underwear or trousers sagging so much they're falling off, but breaking small uniform rules like rolled skirts and stuff is a really key part of being seen as put together. idk if in the USA it's different but in the UK the formula for girls is curled/put together NEATLY! Hair, long socks (sometimes with bows, usually black. or slightly see-through tights) above knee skirt, medium length tie, slightly fitted school shirt, and basic bag/purse (some schools dont allow a purse, in which case just get the school bag and leave it blank)

I was a scholarship kid at a private school for middle school. My parents still had to buy the uniforms and the school recommended a store. My mom bought all my skirts there (straight style) and the first day of school I learned that everyone else went to an online store and got pleated skirts. My parents couldn't afford more skirts and I was devastated. Luckily the kids weren't too mean, but they did comment on it.

I used to wear multicolor knee high socks and suspenders with my uniform to school I guess I didn’t really care about fitting in but I’m glad I was allowed to express myself
