Girls Trip was such a miss after a year of building up to something big. I’m worried she doesn’t have a strong artistic vision which is why the big budget will be a problem. She’s obviously a great singer, dances, and has an aesthetic. But does she have what it takes to keep up with the constant reinvention the gp requires from women in pop? Idk.

For Zara’s next album I hope she builds off the sounds of Midnight Sun and Girls Trip! I loved her work with MNEK, Helena Gao & Margo XS and if she does decide to work with more people I hope it’s more stuff with Oscar Scheller & PinkPanthress!

This is adjacent to my opinion that an amazing singing voice isn’t always a good thing. Don’t get me wrong I think there are some artists with super incredible, technical voices who make really compelling music. But I think there’s also some artists who get really hampered by it. They’re so focused on showing off their voice they’re just not making interesting art. Sometimes vocal gymnastics are a distraction.

True. A big budget only makes sense if you have a big vision (think a Beyonce Coachella project). Her ends justifies her means. But the budget can become a crutch for the artist and a distraction to the audience, really fast. You’ll still be successful—in the way that Walmart is still successful, it’ll just compromise your art.

I don’t think so because people say they want authenticity and that less is more but it still needs to be perfection. It’s very clean girl spirited. Sure more money doesn’t mean better product but less money spent is just as devoid of real meaning. It’s just another fantasy being sold.
