@livingwiththehansens: For a lot of us, this was the message growing up: Go to college. Build a career. Never depend on anyone else financially. And I did exactly that. I have a career I’m proud of. I’m grateful for it. I love the financial security it gives my family. But I also think we’re finally honest enough to admit there were tradeoffs nobody talked about. The student loans. The daycare bills. The emotional whiplash of leaving your babies every morning. The realization that “having it all” often feels like doing it all. This isn’t anti-career. It’s questioning whether we were ever told the full story✌🏼 Motherhood | Mom Life | Working Mom | Corporate Life • #workingmom #careerwoman #workingmomlife #corporatemom #momlife
Yup...after watching my mother and all of her friends trapped in a marriage because they had no way to leave... I'm VERY glad I have my own career and safety net so I can leave if I ever need to.

Yeah. They sold us a lie, now we’re stuck doing it all, struggling mentally, and aching for a softer life. ❤️🩹

It’s ok to be a SAHM BUT always have a paid skill and your own money. Men will always put themselves over wives and children in an instant. See it daily in family court. It’s heart breaking.

I’m a SAHM. My husband chokes every month paying those loans. Got my education in my back pocket though, in case I ever decide to become a teacher and make a whopping $400 or so a week.

Eh! Then you’re screwed if he leaves you or dies without proper insurance. I’d rather have the comfort of knowing I can do it myself. It’s a damned if you do or damned if you don’t situation.

My husband was injured and unable to work. I was a SAHM. I have a masters degree and was able to find work within the week. It was a good job that kept our lifestyle exactly the same. So thankful I have that

This was the message I received from my mother. She was a sahm, my dad cheated on her and left her with nothing. What I heard was “learn from my mistakes.” I’ll be damned if I’m going to give any other person that much power over my quality of life.

Honestly, about half the time the man is going to ditch you anyway. Leaving you with your kids still in daycare anyway- but now you have a career gap & lower paying job (and often- less flexibility that you might’ve had otherwise). Better to just never stop working. Take it from me (one who made the wrong choice). I will advise my daughter not to do the same.

Hate it. Bread winner here. But my daughter is currently set to retire with more money than I will and she is 1, plus she will inherit everything. I don’t want her to work unless she wants to.

Hey so I got scholarships, went to a community college, then stayed home and finished my degree all while working and paying as I went. Got my degree with zero debt. My husband went to trade school. I’m not here to bash anyone just letting you know there are other options.

Cuz most of those men trade in their wives for a younger version, leaving the first wife with zero money and employment history... We watched the women get left behind, be abused, be disrespected and left without options. Even if working blows and as much as I'd like to depend on my husband, I need to be smart and protect myself in case it all blows up in my face
