I did one of them 23 and me tests and my DNA was only 4% english the rest was a little bit of Scottish then Irish and scandanavian. I'm white and was born in England and lived here all my life. mixed race lad in work did one and he was 18% English, so my question is who is more English me or him?

English is a distinct ethnicity and I for one have always thought the colour of someone's skin really has nothing to do with ethnicity — it's about culture. Saying Ian Wright isn't English is insane! If your main culture and how you identify is English then you're English, if your main culture and how you identify originates from a different country then you're probably not English. However, anyone can identify as being from England in a civic sense and everyone that wants to be English in a civic sense should also be welcomed. It's really all not that hard to grasp 🤷♂️

Of course Ian Wright is not ethnically English, however he was born here, is a Christian, loves this country, proudly represented England and supports English sporting teams, speaks with a regional English accent, has an English name, so for me I would consider him English.

All of this was the fault of Thatcher who ended birth right citizenship on the 1st of January 1983 meaning that nobody would be "born British" but inherited from a parent who is British or has settled status. This wouldn't be an argument but for that.
