That’s adorable. Lemme tell you what being a manager really is: you’re given a number from the top. A target of “below strong” % of your team you have to offer the machine—whether they are really below strong or not—doesn’t matter. Fail to do so and congrats, you become “below strong” yourself. The story you give the employee is performative theater. You get really drunk the first time.

I’m leaving my company specifically because of this issue. I have a super smart boss who does things well her way we are very different. We operate differently and she always tells me how I need to do things. She never asks how I can get to the outcome she’s looking for. After a year I’ve quit…. I’m taking a role that will require less effort and is going to pay me 20% more. I wasn’t looking for more money. I was looking for more agency.

Jobs are not therapy sessions. The problem is you are assigning your feelings to the problem and therefore any solution will just upset you. Stop babying and coddling people. If they have no critical thinking skills to figure it out they should be fired and then we will have a training session about how to not hire idiots that can't think a problem thru. All the dies is create more anxiety because your have stepped in and solved the problem for them and they have zero accountability. This is a company doomed to fail if you are training managers
