I feel like Taking all the information that’s given to us through childhood and experiences taught us free will. It was the base of our free will and the brain took that and turned it into its own.

An answer to the debate changes nothing about how we live.

I think we have to live our lives believing we, and others, have free will, or our society as built collapses 😳

That’s a very good question, “What do we need to believe to live a good life?”

its matters to believe we have free will, but we actually don't, for a functional society we all need to believe we do.

POV: you open Black Seal of the Inner Circle expecting a normal read and instead spend the whole night rethinking everything you thought you knew. Bale Brooks did not hold back.

If you break dowm the argument, its about justifying poor behaviour vs choosing to be a better person. The argument will never be solved, because someone justifying abuse via "traumatic" exoerience, will never allow themselves to take accountability. Because if accountability is expected, they have to own their choices. Its about plausible deniabilty, not free will vs determination. Its ego defence.

I believe you and we have a loose fate more than free will. What I mean by that is there are certain milestones, places, people, and so on that are supposed to cross our path. How they cross our path is the only piece of oak free will that we may have. If we’re supposed to be in Spain for whatever event, whether it be by boat or plane, however we get there is on us, but we’re predestiny to be there.

depending on who you are and your situation you will have a different relationship to free will. But put it simply: if free will exists then we are all guilty. if it doesn't: no one is to blame. But in my opinion we all have free will but to which degree we can exorcize that free will varies a lot. You choose where to go, but you don't choose how many paths are available to you or how many you are able to stop or how much time you get to spend deciding before you have to turn at a crossroad. I believe that free will is more of a mental muscle than anything else. Like a neuro pathway in our brain that gets stronger each time we use it. And I think some people want to keep you from discovering this muscle. You're easier to control through fear and shame if you don't exercise it. if that muscle is super strong you will seem extremely odd to everyone else

I think it matters whether we have free will or not. An 18 year old goes to jail for a crime. He grew up in poverty, father is in jail and suffers from alcoholism, mother probably has an undiagnosed mental illness. If we believe in no free will there was no other option for that young man. He’s genetically predisposed to certain illnesses and grew up in unideal environment that affects his behavior. As a society we can help control for these conditions as much as possible. By just criminalizing people for their crimes without looking at the root perpetuates the problem.

I think it’s somewhere in between. We make our own decisions, but those decisions are informed by our previous experiences. We can still freely choose and we can choose to change those decisions.

btw recently and on vast scale occur podcasts convincing us to that, we don't have free will, so meta question why it's beneficial to have such opinion and spread it

We’re 3D beings trying to think in 4D. We can’t even imagine what we can’t imagine. It’s not “free will” but a will to be free. We both know how to fish yet are content with eating the fish readily available to us.

Aw man I lowkey loveee debating and either being myself, or being engadged with someone who is being devil's advocate. Legit this is a GREAT video series idea, but I couldn't believe it when you said what it was. Just last week after a party I was sat with some mates on my kitchen floor and when the discussion turned to free will I was outnumbered and out gunned for that part of the discussion...... People do NOT like this idea hahaha...... I'ma gonna follow and do the next one, i hope there's more, the world is starved for this kind of thing, I literally yearn for it 🤌

We believe we choose our path, yet perhaps we are only watching the universe unfold through us. We are not the authors of our destiny, but echoes of countless causes set in motion long before our first breath slaves to a story we never began.

If I were to base my answer on a metaphysical phenomenon, I would say that we are not the authors, we only act out the play. But if it were a more literal and scientific approach to the question, I would rely on the advancements in brain imaging, the discovery of genetic predisposition to mental health illness and personality traits and also the research in our ability to physically alter the chemistry and composition of our brain.

I think life circumstances also play a role if we are free agents. If someone is poor they must work to make money and live, unless they choose to die. Someone who is born rich has a higher ability to live life the way they choose.
