In March 2019, it was announced that a full inquest before a jury would be necessary to investigate the circumstances of her death during her appearance at Chesterfield Coroners' Court. On July 14, 2015, Luczak was discovered hanging in her cell at HMP Foston Hall in Derbyshire, one day prior to her son's eighth birthday. The investigation determined that Daniel had been the victim of a campaign of "incomprehensible cruelty" at the residence of Luczak and her partner, Mariusz Krezolek, in Coventry. The toddler was systematically starved, force-fed salt, and beaten, resulting in his death from a head injury in March 2012, according to the West Midlands Police. The prosecution stated that Daniel had been observed scavenging for food from school bins and weighed just over one and a half stone at the time of his demise. The investigation determined that in 2013, both Luczak and Krezolek were sentenced to a minimum of 30 years. Investigative Detail and Judicial Findings The 2019 review, according to the court, was conducted to ascertain which witnesses would be summoned for the full three-day inquest. The Derbyshire Coroners' Court was informed that the jury would likely hear from prison custody managers and medical personnel who were involved in Luczak's care at HMP Foston Hall. The investigation revealed that Krezolek, her partner, had also passed away in custody. He suffered a heart attack at HMP Full Sutton in 2016, just six months after Luczak's demise. Mrs. Justice Cox, the judge who sentenced the duo in 2013, had characterised their actions as "unimaginable acts of brutality." Luczak was jointly held accountable for the fatal blows to Daniel's head and the months of starvation that preceded them as a result of her actions in Coventry.
