The defendant, who resides in Owlet Grange, Shipley, West Yorkshire, was sentenced for a targeted assault that occurred in March 2025, upon his appearance at Bradford Crown Court on 16 March 2026 via video link from HMP Leeds. Melvin was reported to have exhibited "striking audacity" by perpetrating the assault in broad daylight. He subsequently demonstrated his "vile" lack of remorse by masturbating during his own trial. Melvin's behaviour was determined to be exploitative and "shameful" during the investigation. The defendant was reported by the West Yorkshire Police to have targeted a stranger on a bus, committing multiple sexual assaults and an attempted rape. Melvin's "reprehensible" disregard for the victim and the legal system was further demonstrated by the prosecution's assertion that he was "disruptive" during the proceedings, as evidenced by his smiles, laughter, and fidgeting.
