@evidenceandespresso: This trial is going to be so important on so many levels. Three children lost their lives. A family was forever changed. And now a jury, who didn’t sign up for any of this but is simply a group of regular people performing their civic duty, will be asked to answer one of the most difficult questions without letting biases or feelings about what happened to those children get in the way. I don’t envy them and I’m forever grateful to them. Give me a follow if you wanna keep up with it all from the perspective of a teacher turned lawyer. #lindsayclancy #truecrime #trials #crimenews #trialtok
This is Andrea Yates all over again and it makes me so sad. She tried SO hard to get help and was failed at every turn. The insurance company who denied her inpatient care should be held liable! Also her husband who left her alone with the kids while knowing she was having auditory hallucinations!

I don’t think prison is the answer but a lock down, secure psychiatric facility would be beneficial

Everyone failed her. Her medical team, the medical system, her family, her friends etc. they all failed to protect her and her children. I had ppd and anxiety after my first. It was nowhere to the level of hers or psychosis. The sleep deprivation on top of it was torture. she was begging for help. Telling them she was suicidal, that she was hallucinating and couldn’t tell the difference between reality and hallucination. How anyone did not think she should be admitted or at a minimum separated from her children or watched 24/7 is beyond my understanding.

I’ve been sitting with this case for the last few days with the intention of broadening my perspective, as I realized that my viewpoint hadn’t evolved since this incident was first reported in January 2023. I’ve developed a better understanding of her psychiatric med history, which I’d been aware of but I had not realized how fervently she asked for help. I’d never thought she’d committed the act in her right mind, but I was firm in my stance that she bears criminal responsibility. Now I’m not sure, but am leaning towards no. How much help is a person supposed to beg for before they are taken seriously? Moreover, what if she had preexisting mental health issues that were worsened by postpartum hormones and amplified by a cocktail of meds? As a laywoman, I’m no one to say if she was or was not in psychosis. However, the one point I cannot over on from is that she reportedly asked if she’d need an attorney immediately upon waking in the hospital. If true, I interpret that as acknowledgment of criminal wrongdoing because it suggests that she understood the gravity of her actions, thereby undercutting the notion that she was too disconnected to appreciate such.

I think the thing that is so hard in these cases is ….the outcome should be the same regardless. If you are a person who purposefully murdered your kids - you should never be free. If you are a person who has mental health issues so severe you could murder your kids - you should never be free, you aren’t safe for society. Very sad case.

I heard she’s on constant suicide watch. I feel very deeply for her. She was very failed by the system. Incredible tragedy.

As a black person in America watching this play out, this is infuriating. This is white privilege to the max. Every time a white person commits a heinous crime, we go to mental health as a nuance to consider in their case...If this is where a black woman committed the exact same crime. The death penalty would be on the table.

The only good thing that could happen is that maternal mental health gets more attention and clarity it needs.

The thing is there’s a ton of premeditation and there’s a ton of understanding that what she is doing is wrong and then try to escape justice from it

my hot take is, I dont believe she is criminally responsible to the fullest extent. however, I do believe a manslaughter charge is warranted. yes she was let down by her medical team, yes her judgement was clouded, but it is clear she planned this- mental illness or not, she planned it.

People don’t understand how serious psychosis is. Psychosis isn’t really something you can snap out of

There has to be consequences for what she did but the healthcare system TRULY failed her. Her psychiatrist should lose prescribing privileges. There is still so much that is not understood about mental health and even more so post partum mental health. It's so freaking devastating. I have so much empathy for her family.

This is a show trial, she was clearly mentally ill, the psychiatrists should be held accountable for not hospitalizing her

Her doctors should be held accountable for prescribing all those different psychiatric drugs. 13 drugs in 3 months is crazy! They didn’t allow one drug to take effect before they prescribed a different one.

I had post partum anxiety after my son was born and didnt sleep for days just stood over his crib sobbing because my anxiety made me believe that if I slept or walked away he would die. I called my mental health care provider and told her what was happening and I said this cant be normal I cannot sleep or he will die and she said "you just need rest and help." ma'am its covid lockdown there is no help and if I sleep he will die so rest isnt an option this isnt normal I need help. her solution "wheres the childs father? can he watch him for an hour or so and you get some sleep?" I hung up and white knuckled it. eventually my body was so tired it shut itself down and I fell asleep in his room woke up in a panic but he was still alive. it was like all logically reasoning went out the window and all I understood was if you sleep or take your eyes off him he will die. if it can happen to 1 of us it can happen to any of us. maternal mental health needs to be taken seriously.

she was BEGGING for help. she did everything the system tells new mothers to do when they are experiencing postpartum depression or psychosis. she reached out for help. she asked for support. and EVERY PERSON, every doctor, every psychiatrist, her husband, everyone FAILED HER.
