My 7 month old son has Trisomy 21 and every time we tell people they always say "he doesn't look like he has down syndrome", always makes me feel like people think I'm lying 😅 He also doesn't have a simian crease, and most of the down syndrome markers he has myself, his Dad or sister has!

She has facial features. And not every child with full trisomy 21 even have all typical features of trisomy 21.

Why are people saying the dentist was inappropriate? You do realize that dentists also learn about other medical things in school, right? He probably recognized that she doesn’t have the typical characteristics of somebody with down syndrome and as a trained professional it would be totally within his scope of practice to tell somebody they may want to look into a possible misdiagnosis or a more specific diagnosis.

Good for him. So many genetic/health issues directly correlate with oral health. Our child has a genetic syndrome and the amount of issues it has caused her orally is crazy. She is beautiful! 😊

This is a really important question for a dentist to ask. DS can put kids at high risk of airway compromise during dental treatment.

I have the simian crease on both of my palms and don’t have DS. I’ve always found it odd.
