They should dictate eachother no? Your monitor should match the capabilities of your pc

I have a 4k 240hz monitor. I play at 4k on single player games and 1440p on shooters. For me at least that perfect.

my opinion , PC > monitor. reason brand new AAA title max ultra settings , you might get 60fps on a single 5090. most people wont be owning a threadripper dual Rtx card, 128+ ddr5 to achieve 4k/8k gaming. so machine might need to reduce to medium settings or 1440p, and a 4k monitor is cheaper than high end cpu. if your monitor is only a 1920×1080 , you shouldnt throttle your pc to run HD quality. because resolution ≠ performance.

the monitor costs a lot less, if i had 8k to spend on a setup I'm sure I'd take a 4k OLED monitor and built a PC around that, but I dont

it's not the "monitor" it's you should decide on the resolution you want to use. then you have somthing to compare each components performance to so you can decide what you want or can afford.

Got a 2k 360hz oled Monitor paired with a rtx 5080. I wanted a 4k Monitor but since i can only use a 27" Monitor its Not really worth it to Upgrade to a 4k oled imo. At 27" the difference is almost Not noticable. So ill Stick to my 2k until they get cheaper

id say build your pc with the monitor in mind. make sure it can get your monitors specs either maxed or just what you need
