EDIT: I did not expect this to blow up as much as it has... I posted it in an offhand way expecting only 7 people to see, but I was wrong and have caused confusion as to what my role in it was. Updating for clarity…. I spent 170 hours creating this AI-assisted style transfer experiment using an existing Disney animation. Original animation belongs to Disney’s artists. I simply wanted to showcase that world class Hand Drawn animation can now be rendered in a 3D look with the assistance of AI… but it is not one click… It took monumental amounts of time to get the result you see above. It was of the utmost importance that the output matched exactly 1:1 to the original individual frames. I generated each frame one by one. All 275… most of them required editing, photoshopping, comping in AE, and close supervision to match perfectly to the original, which is the real magic in the clip above. Hand Drawn animation is magic, and this technique could be applied to any hand drawn animation, I just used this one to show how beautiful this style would be if applied to excellent animation!!! I want to increase the amount of Hand Drawn animation in the world. AI is simply a tool that allows us to get a result that was not possible before… It is not magic. If you truly want something special to come out of it, treat it as a tool. Treat it like a paint brush that an artist can use to do something that wasn’t possible before.. but pour all that time and effort in otherwise it won’t have value #animation #styletransfer #disney
