@simplychickensofficial: Cleaning sand w/ 50+ chickens! 🐓⏳ Why I love using sand in my chicken coop & run 👇🏼 ✔️ Low maintenance & easy on my body ✔️ Scoop weighs less than 1 lb so sifting dried 💩 is lightweight + takes very little effort ✔️ No lifting bags of bedding ✔️ No shoveling ✔️ No replacing (or buying) bedding ✔️ No wheelbarrow needed Sand has so many benefits, too! 🤩 • Helps reduce foot issues • Acts as natural grit to aid digestion • Acts as a natural dust bath • Drains & dries quickly after rain • Never molds like organic bedding can • Doesn’t multiply/harbor bacteria like organic substrates can • Dries out droppings, making cleanup lightweight The list goes on & on! 🏆👏🏻 #chickensoftiktok #sand #lowmaintenance #farmlife #fyp

im so confused whether to use sand or like compost stuff ,idk if you understand what i mean, because i saw this other chicken owner saying sand is bad if they get like a cut and the sand would just stick and not help

We keep our chickens in our backyard. All we really need to clean in clean the asphalt and their roosting area. We do have grass in the backyard too tho. We always place down grass seeds on the ground since it grows quickly and the chickens dont actually eat the seeds surprisingly. The thigh we struggle with the most is probably when they get warm. Do you have any tips?

how much sand do you put in the run when you first built it? do you have to bring in additional sand occasionally? what is your native soil like? I have clay and wonder if a sand run is possible
