As a kid who was in the system myself and then fully left the system at 16. Navigating the start of college was so overwhelming for me. I wished I had a parent to help me in the process. I had to do it alone and I was the only one I knew who had to. My roommates parents took them out shopping and made sure they were set and ready to go. There is a lot of power in responsibility and there is also a lot of power in leaning on your parents in such a huge life changing situation. ❤️

I think it’s important you’re teaching him to be an adult . Parents will always help but it’s important they learn to be responsible adults and not rely on us. If we don’t teach them they’ll forever expect someone else to do everything for them.

My brother didn’t fill out his dorm paperwork on time so he was on a waitlist. My mom always said, I’m dropping him off with a cardboard box and a blanket (he got a dorm and he learned a lesson) 😂

I was so fortunate my daughter handled all of her FAFSA all of her scholarships and she asked me to go shopping with her and help her pick out the things she needed for her dorm so she was on top of it and I was really proud of her

well he also knows deep down youll do it for him...if he doesn't go prepared i would say well i do have some extra things i bought for the house..give me some money and you can take it back with you...dont let him get out of the ending of solving things out to easy

When we went to my kids orientation they told us they will not speak to us, our children are adults and need to be able to do this stuff for their selves.

with all opinions and everything else i can say i do wish i had a mom let alone parents like you. Adulting on your own the hard way is and was miserable at 18 but having support and a good mom will always beat figuring it out all by yourself❤️🩹
