When we are advised to charge what we are worth, it introduces the ambiguity that existed in the first place. Because “what you are worth” cannot be answered without comparison. What am I worth in what sense exactly? If years of experience, what’s the benchmark for a 5 years experience? In an industry where you barely know what other creatives charge, how do you really measure what the worth is? It just still leaves an inexperienced creative with guesses and always doubting. That’s why when a client argues the price it immediately shatters confidence. I wish we could get more insight into what “worth” really means when it comes down to the numbers.
