LITERALLLY!!! Every major aesthetic change to the monsters he encountered has to do with Odysseus being forced to look back at his own actions. Circe being a lowly farmer lady? That’s the kind of women his men would’ve SA’d (she SAYS this too!). Athena being a girl that was beheaded at Troy?? The creative decisions Nolan all ties back to the major thematic element of Odysseus realizing just how much blood is on his hands!!! AAAAH THIS MOVIE WAS SO GOOD!!

I thought the thematic angle that Nolan took regarding Zeus’s Law, and and what happens when that trust is eroded, was fascinating—not that it’s not present in the original epic—but treating the Trojan Horse as a sort of original sin was fantastic. A really great anti war movie.

The armor is honestly what struck me first, it was more advanced, they were more covered head to toe, and the way they had just been waiting for them and actively baited them implied so much terrifying intelligence that depicting them as monstrous cannibals just wouldn't have achieved, it's also the fact that they would have been two man eating giant creatures back to back, so this was just more unique.

I think people are looking too far into this movie as if it’s supposed to teach people the Odessey. This isn’t a history class, it’s an adaptation. He set out to make a good film not become a history teacher.

The Odyssey really is the story of Xenia (called Zeus's law in the movie) and I'm so glad that it's so at the forefront the way it is and expanded upon, that's what makes it a great adaptation

Took the words right out my mouth but also they’re real humans and not cgi. It’s forced perspective and the giants are just super tall regular people and the soldiers running away are below average height extras and Matt Damon’s stunt double was a short stunt woman with massive biceps

not the point of the video, but I love that Odysseus either sees that dead priests as Athena or Athena is fucking with him by taking the form of her priestess that was begging for her life but was still killed.

I like your explanation and tbh the giants being humanoid didn’t bother me at all . Only thing I wished is that they kept the cannibalism . We never get to see them actually eat the soldiers but i think that would have added a extra layer of horror and irony

I feel like the little girl was just as disarming as the Trojan horse, luring them forward and trapping them into the walls (trees), before they are butchered. Much like in the siege of Troy.

I thought it was a representation of the first time the Bronze Age came against steel. Their weapons far superior and literally destroyed the weapons that they were holding making them ants. And the other men that were holding steel… giants.
