@maxglennon: Autism looks genetic. But that doesn’t explain many of the environmental risk factors and the sudden rise in the rate of autism. Instead, I think it is strongly affected by epigenetically enhanced inflammation, passed down the family line, and modern life won't let it turn off. Does the genetic explanation ever feel incomplete to you? Do you know what epigenetics means? #ActuallyAutistic #AutisticAdults #AutismHealthCoaching #AutismResearch #Epigenetics

because we’re genetically predisposed to developing the inflammation

I was with you until you said McDonald's etc. Not that fast food is healthy but I grew up in poverty. I never ate fast food. I ate beans, rice, potatoes, canned vegetables, frozen vegetables etc. Even though we were poor my mom fed me the healthiest food options we could get. I have asd. Most of my kids do. So does my mom, some of my cousins, and grandparents parents siblings. My inflammatory reactions end up making me almost die from viruses like noro. My kids get sicker than most kids too. I'm sure epigenetics matter for autism but I'm so sick of the focus on food. Kids with healthy diets with parents with healthy diets still have autism. Then there are tons of people who eat horribly and don't have autism. Also autism hasn't exploded in the past 30 to 40 years. The diagnosis has increased. Autism has likely always been in our species.

This is interesting to me. What are your credentials that led you to write the book? I recently moved abroad with my autistic kiddo and have noticed huge progress just from being in a more natural environment
