"I've been dreading messaging you all afternoon." So... you're telling me you've known about this for several hours already, several hours of normal work time in which I could have already been working on this to lessen the weekend workload? But you waited until the very end of the day so that my only option was to do all of it during non-work hours?

This is why you don’t answer on your way out the door.

say ok , then not get it done. When they ask why say he had plans, and your ask was un realistic

As the employee I would have bargained. If I’m working all weekend I want short remote hours all next week to make up for this.

employer should start with - if you wish to do this you will receive 200-300% compensation. otherwise, i am not even reading the messages.

Sometimes clients need to be told no.

Best answer is simply, “sorry I’m unavailable this weekend. Good luck. Chat Monday.”

Can we normalize telling clients “no” once and awhile? And giving them an alternative date??

I don't understand business stuff but if it REALLY needed to be done - the manager should have offered to help AND offered something in return! Extra PTO.... money.... if he actually felt bad he'd offer something as a "thank you."

So why does the manager push this on their employee? At the bare minimum this should be a team effort and well-compensated. You don’t ask people to offer up their whole weekend just because.

And then you get the model and deck done on their insane timeline and when you follow up a few days later, they day “oh we haven’t had time to review yet” 🫠🫠

so you want a 20+ hour project finished in 2 days when im not working and i have plans? so you have 3 options. 1. i tell you no and that's an end to this matter, 2. i do this and i get in writing before i start i get 2 weeks off at a time of my choosing at full pay. 3. you demand i do it I say i will and use this weekend to find another job and you wont see me again

The answer is already no and we can speak with HR on Monday morning so we can research techniques and policies that support clarification on project management and reviewing the SOW for this client.

Also, don’t be this client. Don’t put your vendors/partners/agencies in this position. You don’t need anything at 9am on a Monday. If your boss is asking for it, tell them a reasonable timeframe and protect your vendors.
