I do not want to be known. I do not. That old craving of walking into a room and feeling the air shift because your presence has arrived has slowly left me. The desire to be announced by whispers, by stares, by people saying, “That is the guy,” no longer feels like glory. It feels like weight. There is a quiet blessing in walking on ordinary roads without your name arriving before your body. To go where you want, sit where you want, leave when your spirit is tired, and not have the world ask for an explanation. Perhaps that uncle we had, the one who appeared when he wanted and vanished when he needed to, was not strange after all. Perhaps he had understood something earlier than the rest of us. That a man does not always need to be available to the world to be meaningful in it. I want that kind of life. To walk into church, sit at the last bench, pray quietly, and leave quietly if my heart asks me to. Not because I am running from people, but because sometimes the soul does not want an audience. Sometimes worship is more honest when nobody knows you came. I want to walk into a supermarket and buy one loaf of bread without feeling examined. Without wondering what the cashier thinks. Without explaining whether I am doing well or badly. Without performing abundance for eyes that do not even love me. There is a sacred kind of life where a man is no longer trying to prove that he exists. He simply lives. He comes when he can. He leaves when he must. He sits where peace finds him. And slowly, he learns that to be unknown by many is not a loss. It is rest.
