A coworker and I were up for the same promotion I was busy trying to make sure my work looked good. She was busy walking around quickly with a clipboard, and when I asked why she got the promotion over me they made reference to the clipboard and the fact that I walked slow. She didn’t do a single thing, but walked fast with the clipboard, and I am so serious. I quit that day and she got fired maybe three weeks later and I got a call asking if I wanted my job back.

SO 100% spot on!! I have been overlooked for a promotion so many times when I was the qualified one. and that other person quit or was fired but here I am… still faithfully standing!

Well, in my business- in my position- I want that hard worker that’s also a team player!!! You have to work well with others- if nobody likes u on the crew u won’t make it, and I’m not gonna promote someone if they can’t communicate

It’s kinda sad that folks that get promoted deal with this level of disrespect. Like everyone is playing games… BUT YOU. Gotta think that when YOU finally get promoted there will be a jealous person saying the same thing. Sad cycle. Focus on YOU not others. Just a thought.

Being capable is not what they want. What they want is someone who will nod. Take the crap off them and pass it down. Marry the job and have their personal life be non existent or lower on the scale. They want a yes man (or woman.)

Why would anyone working in a corporate setting want to get promoted? Middle management is literally the worst position. Sure, you get paid a little more…. But the stress, always looking over your shoulder, getting kicked from both ways is not worth it.

Not always true, it works both ways. I got promoted over someone older than me, and was there longer than me. Didn’t necessarily have more experience than me, but she became too comfortable and didn’t show enough capability, I came, and showcased how I work everyday, and my effort was rewarded bc I showed my capability

Very true. I had 20+ years in Admin with Supervisory experience....Got screwed over for a promotion for an 18 year old with no experience nor people skills, never mind Admin or Supervisor skills, to become our Team Leader. Just because she swung her handbag and flirted with our boss for the promotion.

33 years in the corporate business world and I can tell you that is so factual. At one interview in Canada the lady told me, “it’s not if you are qualified but IF we like you, gets the job”🤔 In Jamaica I got the job over everyone because the boss liked me and few years in when I got promoted, the same applied coupled with the fact that I was best at the job😇🤪 So being like by the right persons at the top is 95% important👍🏾
