I wonder what was complex about the dad’s estate to take 5years and still not being windup…. Lawyers switch off their emotions for their own gains it’s a sad thing to see. I wonder who referred the mom to this lawyer.

Hi bhuti, both parents died in 2017. (mom June, dad Nov) My dad left money in his bank account. My sister was a co-signee when he was still alive. We then went to the bank to tell them that he passed on,then they withheld everything till today. How do we claim the money back?

Estates are such a headache. My dad passed in 2022, a very simple estate but to date we are battling to conclude it. The lawyer assisted in obtaining the executor's letter, mom was appointed executor bcos there was no will. I did not know at that time that Executor appointment can be negotiated, I would have requested to be one. The reason for this is that I am assisting my mom now, she is old and does not understand all these technicalities. It is so sad that the hold up is from JSE. Dad had a considerable number of shares in one company, we thought the option of having them transferred to mom's name would be faster. The slack from JSE and the imcompetence makes my blood boil. They keep on requesting the same documents over and over again, they ask u to courier when they receive them u hear nothing till u follow up again. The case just end up being handled by various people hence the requesting of same docs so many times and for each and every step they do. What I don't understand is wether they throw these docs away after use or what. In my mind the most reasonable thing to do is to scan them and store them in the client's profile. Since 2023 to date fighting these fools it's draining. The worse part is I work in an environment that deals with peoples' monies I understand the importance of storibg docs and checking the history of a case first b4 responding to a client's query. I scream everytime these guys do this bcos some of these dics certifications would have expired and I would go thru the nonsense over again. Dad had no debts, just a fully paid house, car, cash and those shares but haibo this madness caused by JSE is ridiculous.
