Oh my god that happened to my husband! His HDL was really low and LDL high and glucose was high. Dr told him not to worry about it. 6 weeks later he had 2 heart attacks and a stoke and he’s a young man!

Cardiologists can closely calculate your particle burden without ordering a separate ApoB test. By taking your Total Cholesterol and subtracting your HDL (Good) Cholesterol, they get your Non-HDL-C value. For the vast majority of patients, Non-HDL-C tracks almost perfectly with ApoB.

For years my total cholesterol was around 200. My HDL was usually low. in the 37-42 range. Once after my HDL came back at 37 with a 192 total my doctor told me to eat more fish or take fish oil capsules. My HDL went to 52 , total was 207. He told me he would rather see 207 with 52 HDL than 192 with 37 HDL. A number of years later I had a calcium CT and my score was 513. Started on Lipitor 40mg , got LDL below 100. 2025 diagnosed with heart failure with preserved eject factor. On Praluent, 10mg atorvastatin, entresto, farxiga, spironolactone ,bisiprolol.

I asked my cardiologist for this test and he said that because I already had my aortic valve replaced along with ascending aorta and single bypass that I already have heart disease so there's really no point in getting the apob test

Great point. Many patients assume that “normal cholesterol” means low heart risk, but cardiovascular risk assessment often requires looking beyond a standard lipid panel.👍

Recently changed Cardiologists, my older Cardiologist, in his 60's, never ordered this test, my new Cardio Doc , in his mid 40's ordered this test and changed my statin from atorvastatin to rosuvastatin
