What’s funny is he must know this is false. There are “secular” New Testament scholars who come to conclusions about the books of the NT that are diametrically opposed to church doctrine and that you yourself might be tempted to make a video arguing against!!….. but if you talk to them they’re like “oh, I still consider myself Christian, this is just what the data seems to suggest to me about the history of these texts and how they were understood in the world they were written in.”

I hear the term “evangelical fundamentalism” more than rarely, but as an evangelical, I’m kinda confused as to what that means. The evangelicals historically are defined by their rejection of fundamentalism after the fundamentalist-modernist controversy. Is this term meant to refer to the entire fundamentalist branch of that controversy, including all non-modernists?

hi Jacob! a long time viewer and I agree with much you said. a follow up question from me would be how does one develop and maintain a strong witness of Christ and His resurrection without fundamentalism, or without a strong appeal to the Scripture? I know that Christianity is more than just the Bible (there’s a more supernatural component too) but out faith starts on the basis of credibility of the written testimony…if that testimony is shaky, how does one recover?

admittedly it is difficult to separate Jesus the savior from the (supposed) only information we know about Him and what he said in scripture. so if you deconstruct univocality, infallibility, inerrancy, and historical accuracy of the Bible, it is quite simple to deconstruct the subject(s) of the Bible as well.

Studying the Bible critically at college was actually how I found my faith. The trend in modern evangelicalism to dumb down the Bible to a simple set of rules and an idol to worship infuriates me to no end.

The innerancy boys seem to act as if the Bible died for them instead of Jesus. As long as you use Him as your hermeneutical lens then no problem with the Old Testament.
