@bymuseum: Ecce Homo (1871–1891) By Antonio Ciseri 📍 Gallery of Modern Art, Pitti Palace, Florence Ciseri does not place us in the crowd. He places us on the balcony. That changes everything. Christ stands with his hands bound, wearing the crown of thorns and the red cloak of mockery. Pilate gestures toward the people below and presents him with the words “Ecce Homo.” Behold the Man. The crowd looks powerful, but it does not hold Roman authority. That authority is on the balcony. Pilate knows Jesus is innocent. His wife has warned him. The officials stand nearby. The soldiers wait. Nobody steps between Christ and the crowd. That is the real shock of this famous painting. The crowd creates pressure. But power makes the injustice possible. History remembers the fury below. Ciseri makes us remember the balcony. 👉 Follow @bymuseum for vivid stories and hidden meanings in classical art.

I like to think the reason we're observing from behind everything is because we the viewer are Barabas the prisoner who was freed.

I discovered this account a few months ago and decided to follow, but I now find myself thinking I should be subscribed. Thank you for the time, thought, and care you put into teaching people how to look at art in such a meaningful and fulfilling way. I’ve learned so much from you, and I’m genuinely grateful for the way you’ve changed how I see and appreciate art.

it's been a while since many of arts explanation has been passing through my fyp and now i understand why so many people are interested in arts. but i am very curious about how many people are interested in abstract or modern art because it does not tell any story or meaning what so ever... well maybe it's just that my mind isn't smart enough to understand..?
