The Texas Attorney General has opened a formal investigation into Lululemon over "forever chemicals" (PFAS) in its activewear — issuing a civil investigative demand in April 2026 to determine whether the brand misled customers about the safety and sustainability of its products. And that's the part Lululemon can't market its way out of. The brand built its identity on being "healthy" and "sustainable." But independent lab testing has flagged signs of PFAS in its leggings — the same class of forever chemicals the state is now probing. PFAS are engineered to repel water and stains, which is often exactly why they end up in performance fabrics. The concern isn't only what's in the material — it's where it sits: leggings are worn against the skin for hours, through heat and sweat, and researchers have flagged continuous skin contact as a plausible absorption route. PFAS are persistent in the body and the environment, and have been linked by the EPA and independent research to thyroid disease, immune disruption, and cancer. For its part, Lululemon says it phased out intentionally-added PFAS in 2023 and is cooperating with the investigation. Pura flagged Lululemon's activewear for potential PFAS load. The fix is straightforward — in independent testing, brands like Nike, Alo, and Under Armour showed no detectable organic fluorine, and are direct replacements.
