I only spent about 6 weeks in dispatch and I can tell you that you're pinged within just a few minutes and sometimes seconds of a call... and dispatchers do not do slow "mmmsss " and "uuhhss" . she was buying time. in the background, i can almost bet at least 3 other dispatchers are on the radio trying to find the closest deputies and calling them on the phone so they can make a plan of how to pull up to her without switching it into high gear. Just 6 six weeks exposed me to enough calls that I knew that profession was not for me. any seasoned dispatcher is going to know this scenario when they hear it.

As a 911 dispatcher….the dispatcher did NOT do a bad job. With her attempting to ping her location, units are already being sent in that direction. Also this isn’t the entire audio, she DID attempt to talk with her and attempt to talk her out of it before the young lady disconnected the line.

Suicide is not cowardly. It's not the "easy way out". It isn't selfish. Please, be empathetic to those who are struggling. The battle is harder than anyone can imagine. While I'm glad I didn't pull the trigger (literally), I do not judge the ones who do. Rest in peace, Mica. 😔

People who are saying it is cowardly or weak have no idea what you are talking about. Most of these people reach out continuously and try to get help. Don't talk down on things you don't understand. She was only calling so her family could have closure and find her. This wasn't posted for her to be talked down on, it was for awareness. Open your eyes and help others around you if you can in any way.

I just lost my boyfriend to a suicide 8 months ago. The pain of knowing I was in the room while he was taking his own life haunts me everyday. I mean everyday!! The whys the guilt mostly. I guess he really thought I could handle this. He was so wrong. Ill never understand why but then again I do, cuz I've never had felt so much pain in my life. Prayers for the family .
