@imagineandattract: Follow @imagineandattract to manifest your dream life! ✨ In the years after one of Britain’s most public political disasters, Winston Churchill carried a private shadow he called “the black dog.” Yet the man known for speeches, strategy, and relentless thought found himself drawn to something almost absurdly ordinary. At Chartwell, he picked up a trowel and began laying bricks, one deliberate movement at a time. It looked like a hobby. Decades later, researchers placed a strangely similar idea inside a controlled clinical trial involving 241 adults with major depression. A later review gathered 26 trials and more than 1,500 participants. The results pointed toward a truth that reverses the way most people understand motivation, mood, and recovery. Bricklaying was not a cure, and it is not a replacement for professional care. But Churchill’s wall may have been quietly revealing something psychology would later measure. Swipe to discover why the hands can sometimes reach a place the mind cannot.

I worked for a corporate logistics/transportation company. Typical 9-5 cubicle office job. I broke down & moved to the Italian countryside to learn Italian & eventually pursue art. 👏

I lost my little brother at the beginning of this year and it has been absolutely hell and made me horrible. After a few months I started building scale models of cars to help take my mind off things and honestly after reading this I feel it might’ve helped way more than I originally thought.

I got out of my dark days by walking 10,000 steps a day. Then I added in a rule of always walk if it’s less than 30 minute to do so, then I added in Always take the stairs, then I added in gym every other day, no excuses, then on the alternate days I decide to jog 5kms, then I added a weekly stretch of 10-20kms run based on energy levels. I’m 46 and super energetic now and loving my best self. I love the man I have become. 💚

This is why over nearly 40 years , motorcycles have helped me ground myself . the riding , the maintenance, and customisation have always given me that anchor in any storm. " live to ride and ride to live " actually means something.

I go out into my hot garage with the door open and find stuff to throw away lol. And sweep or move things. The sweating and moving useless things helps me. I do it a lot when I’m frustrated

It’s not hard when you lay a brick wall you can actually physically see your work manifest in front of you. A lot of people who suffer with depression feel like they’re running in circles and not accomplishing anything. But when you actually do something that shows physical results, you don’t get discouraged and it centers you because you actually can see you’re making progress.

When I retired I was very depressed and would sleep the day away. My kids bought me a sewing machine for Christmas and asked me to make something for them. It worked. Now instead of sleeping I sew!!

We are hard-wired for progress. If the brain can’t find it in one area, it will gladly accept it in another. Great emotion hack. I used woodworking myself and it’s never failed me.

Four years ago, after coming out of hospital, rehab and community care, after having Covid pneumonia. I was fighting everyday to stay with my son and grandsons. It was so hard, I couldn’t manoeuvre around the house, to enable me to have some type of life. My son father gave him a new kitchen, for months I knew I couldn’t have a builder in the house. And even when I did, I still had to go back to bed for a week because it was just too stressful. And then one day I decided that I had to paint and some days that paintbrush would only be in my hands for five minutes. But it gave me the purpose to get out of that bed and to paint it took two years but it gave me the purpose I needed!
