@jawn_o: Metaphors matter. They shape how we handle the hard thing. When it comes to something as important as grief, bad metaphors aren't just unhelpful. They're harmful. To think of grief as a journey gives the impression that grief has what journeys have. Beginnings and endings. Grief most definitely has a starting line, but I don't know if there's a finish line. And when we convince people there is, we give them the only thing in the world worse than real pain. False hope. We send them in search of a light at the end of a closed tunnel. What if grief isn't a journey to finish? What if it's a language that demands fluency? Maybe what we need most as life's dead ends isn't a clear path forward. Maybe we just need some good company. If you need the company (or need to know how to be the company for the people you love, people you like, or people you barely know). Meet me wherever you get your podcasts on 7.26.26 and I'II keep you company. Peace.
