@theartcoach: Tap the link in my bio to start the drawing drills course. A lot of people think drawing a cactus is about memorizing all the little bumps and spines. It’s not. A classic desert cactus is really just a collection of cylinders branching off one another. Once you understand those simple forms, the rest becomes much more intuitive. Then comes the hatching. Instead of drawing straight lines across the cactus, wrap your hatch marks around each cylinder. Those curved lines don’t just make the cactus darker, they explain exactly how each arm is turning in space. That’s why cross contour hatching is such a powerful skill. Every line is doing two jobs at once. It’s creating value while also describing the form underneath.
