I banned myself a few months ago, this week I got a cheque in the mail, it was from taxes owed from a jackpot in the usa, around 600 dollars. I took the money and went to a two day spa. at one time that money would have went back in to the machines. I am so free of that hell now, banning myself saved my life.

Just over 6 months of recovery and only had 3 gambling dreams so far but the last one scared me the most. I was all alone and gambled thinking no one knows. The guilt and shame I felt in this dream affected me like crazy. I also felt yucky the next day. I learned that lying to yourself is worse than lying to others.

Christ I can’t tell you how many times I’ve woken up in the night after a heavy loss for the toilet disoriented and sleepy and then it’s hit me like a ton of bricks that my financial situation is in tatters

Oh boy.. the worst thing is getting paid early because of a weekend or bank holiday.. then it all goes and you have nothing left. Now, not only do you have to think about getting through the next month but how on earth am I going to pay my direct debits..

Probably the worst feeling ever done it when I was in hospital with sepsis lying there bored pay check went in was completely gone within the hour worrying how I’m going to pay my bills as I’m sat there in hospital not being able to work either then ended up borrowing my money from loans and losing all of that one of the worst days of my life still continued to gamble but now 3 Months clean and starting to rebuild my life

yep, done that getting it all back and losing it again. Needed imediate payment of 2k to stop family house being taken back and got paid and lost nearly everything but then hit a run and got up to 4k. Put it on withdraw but then reversed withdraw 2 hours later and lost it all. Still makes me sick thinking about it. That wasn't the end either. Another 3 years.

This takes me back to probably one of the worst days of my life. I’d been up gambling all night, about a week before Christmas, I’d lost almost all of that early Christmas pay. Managed to pull myself out of the fog to get ready for work, in utter panic that I had barely anything left in the bank. Cut off a length off my garden hose pipe, and fashioned a funnel out of a large Coca Cola bottle and got in the car and went to work. Told myself “if I don’t at least make my money back by the end of the day, there’s your way out” - still here, out of nothing but pure luck.

You are literally talking about my life ! But I gambled my staffs wages most weeks , and having to come up with excuses about not paying my staff ! Worst addiction ever !

Absolutely.At first the addicted brain frames the loss as a thrilling test of your capability to solve the need for cash. Your need to be in control and not be bored is subconsciously met by the "dire" situation of suffering this loss so early in the month. Imagine going through this damaging cycle month in, month out, not realising you're becoming a slave to the addiction and how much of a toll its taking on the body and mind. Truly devastating.
