Can using grammarly cause problems if you track your writing?

I have an extension that creates a report for every Google Doc I create and can show a timelapse of me typing as well as tracks when and what I copy and paste and whether it came from within the doc (like moving something within a paper) or from an outside source (like pasting in a quote or a pre formatted citation). It’s probably beefier than I need but it gives me peace of mind

I just had a professor accuse me, and dock my grade. I sent over the Google Docs history that showed 66 edits in four hours. Plus a time stamped browser history. Then offered to meet via zoom to talk about the project. All she said was Turn it in said it’s 27% Ai and the grade is finalized. Girl what???

And also check Rate My Professor to make sure that you don’t pick a class with a prof who hands out accusations of AI use like candy

Professors need to be trained better to not rely on AI detectors. Also, AI can type in real time now with browser extensions so document history doesn’t matter anymore

Im 46. I returned to school for my undergrad in CRIJ 3 yrs ago. I have almost 16 yrs of federal law enforcement intelligence report writing experience. When I write, my brain is always in "professional " mode. By trade and experience, I'm already a critical thinker. Not to mention, I was brought up with a gifted and talented education. I took AP courses, and I was in a magnet program in high school. I feel I need to dumb down my writing to avoid these types of headaches. It almost feels like I'm working double, and it's exhausting.

I also write out all my thoughts and general notes on PAPER! Then I make a PAPER outline. I prove the paper was written by me through the typing logs/editing history, and that it came from me through the stuff I did on paper

I put a paper I wrote 15 years ago into Ai detectors and one of the three Ai detectors said it was 70% AI. I think detection tools are not reliable enough and Professors need to research more before making drastic grading decisions.

Am I the only one who writes out a paper in my notes first and then I paste it into my Word document that's because I use speech to text for majority of it cause that's how my brain works and then I do the final draft once everything is onward

That’s what I’m worried about in my graduate program because I have a learning disability I use speech to text so I write my essays in the message app and then transfer it over to a word doc in format so I always feel like they’re gonna go this has been copy and pasted

The thing I don’t like about AI in higher Ed is that educators use AI every single day for their jobs and then turn around and accuse students of abusing it. I’ve literally had projects graded and you could absolutely tell the grading was written by AI. Of course using AI should be discouraged in higher ed but let’s make this a universal rule for students AND professors.

I record myself writing my longer assignments partly to have proof I didn’t use AI but also because I personally find it makes focusing easier because I can’t use my phone unless I stop the recording

Use grammarly! It has a option where you can get a report of all the changes you made in the document, whether you wrote it yourself or copied it from somewhere. It also show a play through of you typing your paper letter by letter and how long you spent writing

I don't accuse any of my students of using AI, I call them in or email for a discussion and I have them explain the thought process and verify that they know what they wrote about. I verify the critical thought process in person or via zoom.

It’s important as a professor to try and interact via email with online students as much as possible or to get an in person writing sample to make comparisons if an assignment comes up a little fishy. Typically if you ask the student about the assignment and show them the vast and sudden difference between writing styles, they will usually come clean. AI detectors are useless. They just are. If I have a student who practices no spelling or grammar in any correspondence and suddenly writes like a PhD candidate on a test, I put a hold on the grade until a conversation can be had. Typically, students who did their own work have no problem meeting with you.

As a student it is clear that discussion boards are a waste of time, when rules of date, time, word count, intext citations keep it from natural discussion. Critical thinkers understand this calls for ai.

As a community college professor, I have gone through all the stages of grief. Rather than allowing myself to become bitter and paranoid, I am teaching mostly in person and having students write essays in class.
