Sow seeds into module trays or pots first, let them grow on out of harms way and plant them into the ground when they are strong. The following measures should only be used in the worst affected areas of the garden. Although slugs and snails are a pain, exterminating them from the garden completely is not the right answer, as this will damage biodiversity. Not all slugs eat live plants, and some of these methods don’t distinguish, so you’ll kill all slugs including the ones that are just here for the decaying matter. Localise these treatments around plants that are being badly eaten to avoid unnecessary casualties. Avoid slug pellets - even organic ones can be harmful to other creatures 🌍🌱🌻🐝 🌱 Late night slug patrols. Go out into the garden at dusk to catch them red handed, and evict them from your garden. This is a nice approach because it’s instant and targeted towards the slugs that are causing the damage. 🌱 Beer traps are a good way of tempting slugs and snails away from your vegetables. Dig a hole in the ground, put a jar in and fill it with beer. 🌱 Slug nematodes are a native lethal slug parasite that occur naturally in the soil. Boosting nematode numbers helps to control slug populations. You can buy slug nematodes and water them into your soil.
