@justin_danger_nunley: The first comic book published by the company that became DC Comics and the first comic book published by the company that became Marvel Comics both shared the same editor, Lloyd Jacquet. DC Comics Debut: In February 1935, National Allied Publications (the precursor to DC Comics) published its very first comic book, an anthology titled New Fun: The Big Comic Magazine #1. Lloyd Jacquet served as the editor under company founder Malcolm Wheeler-Nicholson. Marvel Comics Debut: In October 1939, pulp publisher Martin Goodman decided to enter the comic book market and created Timely Publications (the precursor to Marvel Comics). Instead of hiring an in-house staff right away, Goodman outsourced the creation of Marvel Comics #1 to an outside packaging studio called Funnels, Inc.. This packaging studio was founded and run by Lloyd Jacquet, who functioned as the editor for the historical debut issue that introduced the Human Torch and the Sub-Mariner. Because of this unique overlap, Jacquet's personal copy of Marvel Comics #1—which he used to hand-write payment records to contributing legendary artists like Carl Burgos and Bill Everett—is known in the collecting community as the famous "Pay Copy".
