You marry the in-laws, too. Your partner having good boundaries and a healthy relationship with their family is critical to a happy marriage!!!

So it’s ok to hurt and upset your mom, but your wife can’t be hurt or upset. This is crazy talk …😳🙄🤦🏽‍♀️🤣

When my brother was 20 he called my mom over a backhanded Facebook post that *could have* been aimed at his GF at the time. He said don’t ever post anything like that again. They’ve been together for 14 years, married for 9! He put her first before they were even married. That’s how it should be. He’s an AMAZING HUSBAND AND DAD!

You made vows to your spouse, not your mother or father.

My husband and I JUST had this argument. We have encountered pregnancy loss and infertility and his family knows this. Last month when we were in vacation my BIL said I could be their nanny for the trip (because we didn’t have children). Until one of my other SILs said the brother said the same thing to her (we both married into the family) my husband kept saying “he didn’t mean it that way. You should address it with him”

Wow, Nicole... you are so spot on. 🎯💯 Protection is incredibly attractive. One of the deepest forms of love is saying, "I won't let anyone—including my own family—continually disrespect the person I chose." 🔥 That creates emotional safety. 🤍 Your nervous system isn't asking for perfection. It's asking, "Will you stand beside me when it matters most?" That answer shapes the entire relationship. And honestly... hearing your partner say, "I'll handle it," is such a green flag. 🌿

I am so glad my husband takes my side but we’re both guilty of avoidance because no matter how we explain it, or put boundaries down, my MIL still pours her emotional needs out on us. She says that I (the daughter) am the “key” to her not being alone. She creates conflict in her head and sends out super emotional messages. She blames me for no one being close to her… no matter how many times we tell her. Who do you make these so accurate 😭😭😭

This happens all of the time with my FIL. My husband said I should talk to FIL directly. I have gone low contact with his family. Best decision for my peace.

MANY MIL'S do this bullshit where they involve their daughters (your sister in laws) also other females in the family. They then lie and say "I NEVA SAID DAT!"

and when they do place healthy boundaries the family blames the spouse. No winning.

This is so on the nose. I just showed it to my husband and we had a good laugh. We got past this issue years ago, but it’s nice to know that I wasn’t crazy

My husband talked with his family frequently and eventually their behaviors led to estrangement. I think they should have been more careful about forcing two minors to marry in the first place.
