This is Dalia, and her story deserves to be shared. She is a Belmar native, a citizen, a wife, a mother of four, a community advocate. She and her husband are the definition of good neighbors. They need our help. Now she & her 4 citizen children are LEAVING the U.S. Why? Because lawless masked individuals roam our streets, unidentified, unaccountable, kidnapping our neighbors. Right here at home. Your tax dollars were used to apprehend her husband, a #Dreamer, who was rapidly moved to Pennsylvania, then Louisiana, locations his family was unable to visit. He was held at a facility where there have been 2 confirmed deaths (a 3rd reported in the past week). After spending close to 20K in legal fees, he signed self-deportation papers to avoid a 10-year-re-entry bar. He couldn’t risk missing a decade of his kids’ lives. So he agreed to go somewhere he hasn’t been since childhood. Now, his family is following him there. The damage being done under this administration is incalculable. This beautiful family doesn’t deserve this. Neither do the tens of thousands of others nationwide who’ve been targeted. What #ICE is doing is unlawful, indefensible, & antithetical to the values of this country. … And your tax dollars are paying for it. The @economicpolicy institute has introduced a tool, you can now calculate the expense of deportations. As a Monmouth County tax payer it costs YOU individually $3,935. In Ocean, $1,840 per person. Meanwhile, private companies are profiting— to the tune of billions of dollars. They’re the winners, and so are the politicians intentionally sowing fear and hate. In the end, we all lose. The families torn apart, the community missing neighbors, the economy’s lost productivity, and YOU, who covers the costs out of your hard earned dollars. For the record, Congressman Chris Smith never reached out to Dalia. He didn’t reach out when a 15 year old was kidnapped in Ocean County last week. That’s not representation.
