A fact of the mami and homura fight that is very interesting is that homura knows mami's moves and strategies not only because of the time travel, but also because mami was the one to originally teach homura how to use weapons similar to her own and techniques to make them more efficient!! Once that knolodge is there, the fight is even more emotionally heavy,, they are on the same level in the match because they use the same movements against one another, and homura knowing that decides to keep using them..

Homura and Mami are definitely fan favourites for a reason, the way they fight has so much meaning and the rivalry isn’t just used for extra drama. They both chose to become magical girls for selfish reasons but ultimately Mami overcame that while Homura ended up doubling down.

The rivalry they create between Homura and Mami is, in my opinion, taken way out of context. They glorify Mami and make her seem like the strongest without truly investigating, and they make Homura seem like she doesn't care, but all they're doing is misinterpreting both of them. On multiple occasions, it's been made clear that Homura does care about Mami and vice versa. They ignore the fact that both of them (at this point in the story and in Homura's state) were on the same level with a strategic difference. I feel like if Mami hadn't been so unstable and hadn't interfered with Homura's interests, perhaps both of them would have more openly shown a more stable and friendly relationship.
