This is literally an anti art take by the way. He wanted to use a technology that allowed him to fully express his vision. It’s not his fault that 70mm IMAX doesn’t exist EVERYWHERE. The film is perfectly enjoyable in normal aspect ratio and they take great care to ensure that during editing. Art isn’t always going to perfectly 100% accessible and that’s ok. I’d love to go see the Mona Lisa right now but unfortunately I don’t live in France. That doesn’t make it any less special or a piece of art.

“Inaccessible art”?? Looks like you’re watching it and is pretty accessible to everybody rather you have an IMAX 70MM or not. I think people are forgetting that movies have been shot on 70MM before and just because this one is the first to be completely shot that way doesn’t mean it’s unwatchable, you just proved it could be watched in different formats just fine. 70MM is almost like an extra bonus which yes definitely adds to the film but doesn’t take away from it at all if you don’t watch it that way.

See the thing is, if I wouldn’t have heard it’s filmed in 70mm and I watched it at home I would be none the wiser and just assumed the cropped version is the norm. Make your take but art is never gonna be 100% accessible and Nolan’s an industry legend for a reason

sometimes art just is inaccessible. many people will never see art in the louvre or even have the money to go to cinemas at all. if you‘ve ever seen a film in imax: it‘s a completely different experience. you can still go watch it, just with a different experience. and if he fw imax (which is very reasonable) let him do it, is he supposed to make every cinema to an imax all of a sudden?
