Unlike standard scans that measure the outside of the eye, a UBM is a specialised, high-frequency ultrasound that creates detailed cross-sectional images of the eye’s anterior chamber. This allows us to see behind the iris and accurately measure the space where the ICL will sit. This detailed information allows us to select the most appropriate ICL size based on the shape and measurements of your eye, which improves the accuracy of surgical planning. It also provides us with an accurate measurement of the lens “vault” (the space between the ICL and your natural lens) to help ensure the lens sits in the ideal position.
