@scott.austin.martin: One of the fastest ways to destroy attraction in a relationship is to make your partner responsible for your self-worth. When you need constant reassurance that you are enough, every disagreement feels like rejection. Every boundary feels like abandonment. Every moment of distance feels like proof you are not loved. That is not your partner failing you. That is an old wound filtering everything that happens between you. Here is the hard truth: no amount of reassurance can permanently heal a belief that was formed long before your partner arrived. It might soothe you for a moment. But the wound will keep asking to be fed. You will need more proof, more validation, more reassurance because the source has never actually been addressed. Your partner can support your healing. They cannot become your nervous system. The more you ask someone else to carry the responsibility of making you feel okay, the less capacity they have to simply love you. The relationship slowly shifts from connection to emotional management. And attraction fades under that weight. Real intimacy begins the moment you stop asking someone else to solve a wound they didn't create. Healing is not becoming independent of love. It is becoming responsible for your own emotional stability so that love becomes something you freely receive, not something you desperately need in order to believe you are enough. oh my God yes all of this. I'm so tired of being needed. I'm so desperately needed that there is no room for being wanted. and I'm so tired.

I notice you don’t usually respond to comments so I will not ask my question and just state this. I think a helpful clarification would be if your partner has deeply ruptured your sense of trust you have the right to ask for reassurance and compromise. Even if it comes far after the incident. Sometimes we do not process what we need in a given situation or moment. I think it’s important-especially women to feel like they can ask for reassurance after rupture

I like the message you are sending, but using gen ai for book covers is insidious and backwards in this day and age. Pls think about that.

You just summarized a conversation I just had with my GF perfectly. How can I be the balance to make her feel good about herself if she can't do it on her own. I cannot be responsible for that. It doesnt come from me.

This happened to me. I became the emotional regulator for my partner. It put so much pressure on me. I would reassure, and then the target would move.

Sticking your finger in a wound you didn’t create is also an issue. Unfortunately, one I’ve encountered countless times.

I’m still struggling to figure out how to heal that wound that I force my partner to regulate the emotional spasms that come with it. It’s frustrating for me and exhausting for her

Can that look like paralysis almost? The wound is open for a man and the man then paralyzes and hardly can function.

I hear you. It is difficult to not feel like you have no worth when they stepped out on the relationship. I already struggle with feeling this way after he cheated, but him not showing any affection doesn’t help. He doesn’t hug me or kiss me and hardly even says I love you anymore. Makes me feel like he’s either cheating again or that he realizes I was never what he wanted. It’s very hard to not believe I’m worth nothing to him. I know I’m worth something, just not to him.
